Multiple film posters

If you have a poster collection, or have lots of prints up around your house, then you’ll need to know how to store your posters when moving house.

Establishing how to store your posters properly when moving home is crucial to preserve your posters and keep them in good condition during the moving process.

Whether you’re choosing a professional moving company, or are moving yourself, there are various ways to store posters when moving that make for a stress-free experience

There are various methods you can use to keep your posters in the best possible condition when moving.

The best methods you can use to store posters when moving include:

  1. Rolled up in cardboard tubes
  2. Placed in a portfolio case
  3. Bubble wrapped in boxes

1. Rolled Up In Cardboard Tubes

A convenient way to store your posters when moving house is to roll them up in tubes.

If you have a lot of posters in your home, then you may need to store more than one poster in the same tube. Regardless of whether you’re storing multiple posters in one tube or not, you will need to ensure that you thoroughly clean the posters before you store them.

To do this, be sure to use a clean cloth to remove any dirt, dust, or left-over sticky residue if they’ve been stuck up with tape.

It’s worth noting that you shouldn’t be using cleaning products that contain chemicals that could damage your posters. If you store the posters before you’ve cleaned them, then they’re at greater risk of deteriorating or becoming mouldy within the tube whilst they’re in storage.

Once you’ve rolled the poster in question up, be sure to write on a sticky label and stick that to the tube so that your posters are easily identifiable when it comes to you unpacking them in your new home.

In between homes, you will want to carefully choose the location where you store your poster collection until you’re ready to unpack them. To keep them in the best possible condition, make sure that they’re not being stored in direct sunlight or are in danger of being damaged by moisture.

2. Placed In A Portfolio Case

Another method to store your posters when moving is to place them inside a portfolio case.

Portfolios look similar to a briefcase, but are typically used to carry art and are an ideal option when it comes to packing multiple posters.

They are the ideal option if you have multiple posters that you need to carry, as you can store many posters safely inside. You’ll be able to find portfolio cases in art supply shops and stationary shops, although they will be a little more expensive than cardboard tubes.

Make sure that you thoroughly wash your hands before you begin to handle your posters, as you don’t want any of the natural oils on your hands or any dirt to damage your posters.

Once you’ve washed your hands, find somewhere in your home that has a lot of room to lay your posters out and begin filling them into the portfolio case.

Secure the portfolio case and it will be ready for the removal company to pick up.

Framed poster

Be sure to bubble wrap and box up framed posters for maximum protection.

3. Bubble Wrapped In Boxes

In the same way that packing paintings and photos takes a little more thought, when it comes to packing framed posters, they will need more protection during the moving process.

Regardless of whether your posters are in plastic or glass frames, you will need to bubble wrap them before placing them into boxes to ensure that they’re protected.

When it comes to bubble wrapping your posters, be sure that the corners are heavily protected and secured. Once wrapped up, place the bubble wrapped framed posters carefully into the box.

If you intend to store more than one framed poster in a singular cardboard box, then you will need to place some packing paper or more bubble wrap between the frames to prevent them from smashing in the move. Once you’ve carefully stored your framed posters in the box, be sure to tape the box shut.
