Knowing how to pack fragile items, such as photo frames, that are much more likely to smash can be worrying when you’re moving house.
Correctly packing your photo frames is crucial to ensure that they are properly protected for the duration of the move, and so you don’t end up with a heap of glass when it comes to unpacking.
To pack photo frames for moving, you will need to carry out the following steps:
- Prepare a mirror box
- Wrap the photo frame in packing paper
- Wrap the photo frame in bubble wrap
- Pad the box with packing paper
- Pack the frame in the mirror box
- Tape the box shut
- Repeat the packing process for all your frames
1. Prepare A Mirror Box
Before you can back your photo frame, you will first need to prepare a mirror box. These boxes are flatter than traditional boxes, and can accommodate multiple photo frames depending on the size.
The box should be slightly bigger than the photo frame, as you will need enough room in the box to fit the bulkier packing items, such as bubble wrap.
When it comes to packing smaller photo frames, you can place more than one photo frame in a mirror box. That said, you will need to ensure that you wrap each frame separately to ensure they’re properly protected.
Once you’ve chosen the right size mirror box, you will need to prepare it by taping one side of the box with packing tape.

2. Wrap The Photo Frame In Packing Paper
Once your mirror box is ready to go, it’s time to wrap the photo frame in packing paper.
While it’s an added step, packing paper provides a great foundation before you move onto bubble wrap, and this extra step will ease your stress and worries about your frames smashing.
Lay your photo frame glass side down, and begin folding the corners of the packing paper so that they are ready to be taped.
Be sure to secure each corner with packing tape before you move onto the next step.
3. Wrap The Photo Frame In Bubble Wrap
Next, you will need to wrap the photo frame in bubble wrap, as this is the best way of ensuring your frames won’t smash during the moving process.
To do this, simply lay the photo frame glass side down, and then wrap it up in the same way as you would if you were wrapping a present.
You will then need to secure the corners with tape to stop the frame from sliding out of the bubble wrap during the move.
4. Pad The Box With Packing Paper
To ensure that your photo frame is doubly secure during the move, you will need to pad the mirror box with packing paper.
To do this, simply scrunch packing paper into the bottom of the box. This will add another layer of protection for your photo frame and will absorb some shock caused by unexpected movement.
As such, this will also help to prevent your precious photo frames from becoming damaged.

5. Pack The Frame In The Mirror Box
Now you have padded the box out with packing paper, you can pack the photo frame in the mirror box.
If there’s enough room, as mentioned earlier, you can pack more than one photo frame in the same box.
However, it’s important to remember that if there’s lots of excess space in the box, this can mean your frames move around more which could result in damage if there are multiple frames in the same box.
As such, you should fill the excess paper with more packing paper to minimise the risk of your frames being damaged during transit.
6. Tape The Box Shut
Once you have placed the frame into the mirror box, you will need to secure the box shut with packing tape.
This will ensure that your frame isn’t at risk of slipping out of the box, and will make removal day seamless for the removal company.
Be sure to label the box as “Fragile” to indicate to your moving company that they need to be careful with your boxes.
7. Repeat The Packing Process For All Your Frames
Last, but not least, you will need to repeat the packing process for all your frames.
If you’ve got a lot of frames, you can try to pack as many as you can into the same box to save on space.
Now your photo frames are ready to be moved!
