Many people have collections of alcohol, especially after the festive season.
Not only are alcohol collections expensive, but they are also extremely fragile. As such, when it comes to moving house, you might be wondering how best to pack your alcohol collection ahead of the big move.
If you don’t pack bottles of alcohol correctly when moving house, then you increase the risk of the bottles smashing or becoming damaged during transit.
To pack alcohol when moving, you will need to:
- Bubble wrap the bottles of alcohol individually
- Apply tape to the bottom of cardboard boxes to secure
- Add packing paper to boxes
- Place alcohol in the boxes
- Secure the boxes with packing tape
- Label the boxes clearly
1. Bubble Wrap The Bottles Of Alcohol Individually
To begin, you will first need to wrap the bottles of alcohol in bubble wrap.
It’s important to wrap each bottle individually, as this will help to ensure that your wine bottles and spirits are protected from smashing together.
Following this, you will need to secure the bubble wrap with packing tape to make sure that your bottles are wrapped tightly.

If you fail to pack bottles of alcohol correctly when moving house, then you increase the risk of the bottles smashing or becoming damaged during transit.
2. Apply Tape To The Bottom Of Cardboard Boxes To Secure
Next, you will need to secure the bottom of each cardboard box you intend to use.
This comes down to the fact that alcohol such as spirits and wine, tend to be stored in glass bottles that are both weighty and highly fragile.
Bearing this in mind, multiple bottles of alcohol can be very heavy, and you will therefore need to reinforce the box with tape in order to prevent the bottom of the box from collapsing from the weight of the alcohol bottles.
It’s worth noting that there are specific wine boxes available to purchase that can also be used to package and protect your wine during the move. However, when it comes to your spirits, you’ll still want to carry out the bubble wrap method mentioned above.
3. Add Packing Paper To Boxes
Once you’ve secured the bottom of the cardboard boxes, you can begin adding packing paper to them.
This will add another bed of protection to the box for the bottles, as the packing paper is designed to absorb some of the shock caused by transporting your alcohol.
This might seem like an unnecessary step when you’re already bubble wrapping your bottles of alcohol, but it’s better to be safe than sorry when you’re protecting hundreds of pounds of alcohol.

You will need to reinforce the box with tape in order to prevent the bottom of the box from collapsing from the weight of the alcohol bottles.
4. Place Alcohol In The Boxes
Once you’ve prepared the boxes with packing paper, it’s time to start adding the bubble wrapped bottles of alcohol to the boxes.
You will want to make sure that you don’t over pack the boxes when moving house. As mentioned earlier, this not only makes the box very heavy, but also increases the risk of the box splitting.
This is especially true if you don’t carry out the previous step of securing the bottom of the cardboard box.
5. Secure The Boxes With Packing Tape
You will next need to secure the boxes with packing tape. Taping the box shut is an essential step, as it helps to secure the bottles in place and cements the hard work you’ve carried out in the previous steps.
This will help to ensure that your bottles of alcohol remain safe and secure during the move, and aren’t at risk of falling out of the box.

Adding packing paper to the boxes adds another layer of protection to the box for the bottles, as the packing paper is designed to absorb some of the shock caused by transporting your alcohol.
6. Label The Boxes Clearly
Last, but by no means least, you will need to label the boxes clearly.
Whatever you decide to label your boxes of alcohol, be sure to make it clear in bold marker. Labels can include something like Fragile, or Handle With Care.
This will indicate to your removal company that your boxes are delicate and that they need to take care when transporting them to the removal van and into the new home.
