pool table

A pool table is a great addition to your home. However, when it comes to moving and storing it, it can seem more trouble than its worth. Due to the size, weight and shape of your table, it is not always a simple task. The good news is that it’s not impossible: with the right tools and some expert help, you can move and store your pool table with ease.

To move and store your pool table,

  1. Remove the slab and legs, with some help.
  2. Wrap each part in protective materials.
  3. Store in a climate-controlled storage unit.

1. Remove the Slab and Legs

First things first, you need to remove the slab and the legs off of your table. For pool tables, you need to use a key to unlock the table at the side, after which the frame will can be lifted up, exposing the slab. From here, you can lift the slab out.

Keep in mind that the slab is incredibly heavy — some slabs can weigh up to 800 pounds — so you will need help with this. To ensure you don’t damage yourself or the pool table, we’d advise that you hire an expert removals team to do this bit for you.

Once the slab is out, you can turn your pool table on its side and remove the legs, finishing the dismantling process.

Don’t forget to store nuts, bolts and screws in a separate and labelled bag.

2. Wrap in Protective Materials

Now your pool table is dismantled, wrap each leg in a layer of paper and then bubble wrap. For the table itself, you can wrap it in a protective moving blanket. Secure the protective materials with tape, and label them if needs be.

This keeps your pool table safe during transit.

3. Store in a Climate-Controlled Storage Unit

Make sure to store your pool table in a climate-controlled storage unit. If faced with fluctuations in temperature, the wood on your table can warp or buckle, but a space with a constant (and controlled) temperature will prevent this.

When you retrieve your pool table from storage, it should be simple to put it back together! Follow the steps above in reverse, and refer to your owner’s manual when in doubt.
