When you have multiple pairs of shoes, it can be challenging to know how to organise them.
Piles of shoes can quickly look untidy and clutter your house if you don’t have an adequate storage solution in place for storing your shoes.
There are various ways you can store shoes. These methods include, but are not limited to:
- Shoe boxes
- Shoe rack
- Storage under the bed
- Over door storage
- Vertical shoe rack
1. Shoe Boxes
The first way you can store your shoes is to simply pack them into the shoe boxes that they originally came in.
Shoe boxes are great for protecting your shoes from both sunlight and dust. As such, they’re an excellent way to store more expensive, designer shoes that you might only wear on special occasions.
Failure to protect your more expensive shoes from sunlight can cause the colour of your shoes to fade over time, which could end up costing you thousands if it comes to replacing an extensive shoe collection.
Not only does this keep your shoes clean in their box, but also helps to organise them, too.

2. Shoe Rack
Another way to store your shoes is with a shoe rack. Shoe racks are relatively inexpensive and are available in most homeware shops.
They’re also fairly simple to build meaning that you don’t need extensive DIY skills, making the process of building a shoe rack a more manageable experience.
Shoe racks not only provide you with the ideal storage solution for storing your shoes somewhere you can easily see and access them, but they also keep them organised in your hallway.
This therefore frees up space and makes for a more tidy home as you always have somewhere to put your shoes whenever you take them off.
3. Storage Under The Bed
Another way you can properly store your shoes is with storage under the bed.
This is an ideal storage solution if you’re limited on space, as unlike a shoe rack, under the bed storage doesn’t take up any of the available floor space.
This means that you can maximise under the bed, and means you don’t need to sacrifice any floor space in your room.
There are multiple storage containers of varying sizes available that you can use to store your shoes under the bed.
Alternatively, some beds come with built-in drawers that can be utilised to store your shoes.
Simply pack your shoes in order, slide them under the bed, and you’re set.

4. Over Door Storage
Another way to store your shoes is in over door storage. Over door storage is usually made out of fabric, such as canvas, and conveniently hangs over the door.
This is an alternative if you have limited floor space, but also haven’t got the room for under bed storage.
Over door storage is great for storing flat shoes, such as trainers and sandals as they simply slide into canvas dividers that keeps them organised.
As such, if you live in a compact flat or simply want your shoes off the floor, then this is another option for you to store your shoes.
5. Vertical Shoe Rack
Last, but certainly not least, if you’re someone with lots of shoes, a vertical shoe rack is a great way to store them all.
Unlike a traditional shoe rack that sits on the floor, a vertical shoe rack can be installed on either walls or doors to make the best use of the vertical space.
This is an excellent alternative to save space when your drawers and floors are overflowing with shoes, and means you’re able to see all of your shoes organised in one place.
Additionally, being able to see all of your shoes can help you to make decisions on which shoes to keep and which shoes you no longer need, as it’s easy to forget about certain pairs when you’re not able to access them.
