Comic book spread.

Comic book collections are many people’s pride and joy. Considering comics can be highly valuable, paired with the fact that the price of comics is set to rise, ensuring that they’re packed safely during a move can feel daunting.

Packing your comic books safely is crucial to ensure that they aren’t damaged or creased, thus remaining in the best possible condition during your move.

If you don’t know the best way to pack your comic book collection when moving house, then you will need to:

  1. Streamline and organise your comics
  2. Collect packing materials
  3. Pack your comic books individually
  4. Create stacks with your comic books
  5. Place a cardboard divider between every stack of comics and wrap each stack
  6. Pack the stacks of comics into cardboard boxes
  7. Tape up the cardboard boxes
  8. Label the boxes

1. Streamline & Organise Your Comics

Moving house is the perfect excuse to go through your comic collection to streamline and organise your comics before you head to your new home.

Whilst you’re going through your comics, you might find some that you no longer want to keep or some that are duplicates that you can sell on to other collectors.

Streamlining your collection as best as you can and getting rid of any comics that you no longer want will make the packing process quicker and will also free up storage space in the new house.

2. Collect Packing Materials

Once you’ve gotten rid of any comics you no longer want, you will need to collect various packing materials to safely pack your comics.

Packing Materials

  1. Plastic wallets and backing boards
  2. Bubble wrap
  3. Tape
  4. Cardboard boxes
  5. Cardboard dividers

Packing comics can be a time-consuming process, as each comic needs to be packed individually.

That said, collecting these materials and putting them next to you when you’re packing your comics will give you the best chance of speeding up the process and getting them boxed up for a professional removal company.

3. Pack Your Comic Books Individually

Once you’ve got your packing materials in front of you, it’s time to pack your comic books individually in a plastic wallet.

To begin, place your comic book onto a backing board before placing the boarded comic into a plastic wallet.

To ensure that you’re packing each comic properly, run your hand over the plastic wallet, starting at the bottom to the top to ensure any trapped air is able to escape. This will help to protect your comics from being damaged by the elements in the move.

Lastly, you will need to seal the plastic wallet to keep the air out of it. Repeat the process until you have packed each of your comics.

4. Create Stacks With Your Comic Books

Once you’ve packed your comics individually, it’s time for you to create stacks with your comic books.

Stacking your comic books for moving will help to limit the amount of potential damage that can occur in transit, as this will stop the comics from rubbing against each other.

It’s up to you to decide which comics go in which stack, but to make the unpacking process easier, it’s a good idea to have some kind of plan for organisation in your mind.

Whether you like to organise your comics alphabetically or by year, just make sure each stack is organised to your liking to make the unpacking process seamless.

5. Place A Cardboard Divider Between Every Stack Of Comics & Wrap Each Stack

To protect each stack of comics, you can place a cardboard divider on both the bottom and top of the comic book stack

Tape the cardboard dividers onto each stack to ensure that they are secured properly.

For extra protection, it’s a good idea to wrap each stack of comics in bubble wrap. This will limit the amount of stress you’ll feel when moving your comic books. Repeat the same process until each stack is secure.

6. Pack The Stacks Of Comics Into Cardboard Boxes

After you have secured every stack, it’s now time to pack the stacks of comics into cardboard boxes.

We at Falconer Removals use triple walled boxes to ensure maximum protection for your belongings in the moving process.

7. Tape Up The Cardboard Boxes

Once you’ve placed the stacks of comics into as many cardboard boxes as necessary, you will need to tape each box shut.

This will ensure that each box is secured, and therefore eliminates the risk of your comics coming out of their box during the move.

8. Label The Boxes

Lastly, you will need to clearly label your boxes with a pen with something like ‘Comics – Fragile’ to indicate to your removal company that the box is fragile.
