If you’re a pianist without the space for a piano, you’ll likely have a keyboard in your home.
Keyboards can be very expensive, so when moving house, you want to be able to pack your keyboard with confidence that you’ve eliminated the risk of damage.

To pack a keyboard for moving, you will need to:
- Prepare the keyboard
- Wrap your keyboard in bubble wrap
- Prepare a large box
- Protect the keyboard’s corners
- Pack the keyboard
- Clearly label the box
1. Prepare The Keyboard
Before you can set about packing a keyboard for moving, you’ll first need to prepare the keyboard.
You’ll want to dust your keyboard down to ensure it’s nice and clean before you pack it.
For stubborn marks, you can use a damp cloth that’s been dipped in a homemade solution made of white vinegar and water.
That said, you’ll want to ensure that you carefully dry the keyboard with a towel before packing it away to prevent moisture damage.

2. Wrap Your Keyboard In Bubble Wrap
The next step is to wrap your keyboard in bubble wrap.
Lay your bubble wrap on a flat surface before placing your keyboard on top.
Wrap your keyboard in a few layers of bubble wrap as if you were wrapping a present. Generally speaking, you’ll want to aim for at least two layers of bubble wrap.
Be sure to tape down the corners to ensure the keyboard is securely packed.
Following this, wrap the electronic keyboard wire around the keyboard, and wrap the keyboard again with a final layer of bubble wrap. This will ensure that everything stays together and is less likely to be misplaced during the move.
3. Prepare A Large Box
Next, you’ll need to prepare a large box with packing materials.
If you have the original keyboard box with the original packing materials, then this is the best option.
If not, you’ll need to find a box big enough to fit your keyboard as well as plenty of packing materials to absorb the shock caused by transit.
Fill the box with a mixture of packing materials, such as packing paper and biodegradable packing peanuts, to make a bed for your keyboard to sit on.

If you have the original keyboard box with the original packing materials, this is the best option for packing your keyboard.
4. Protect The Keyboard’s Corners
Once you’ve prepared the box, it’s time to protect the keyboard’s corners.
If you don’t have the polystyrene or foam corner protectors that keyboards often arrive with, you can make some with some bubble wrap.
Simply roll a layer of bubble wrap until it’s 2 inches thick and secure it with tape. Repeat the process once more.
Now you have two, tape them to the sides of your wrapped keyboard to provide the corners with an added layer of protection before you add it to the box.
5. Pack The Keyboard
Next, you’ll need to pack the keyboard into the box.
Carefully lift your electric keyboard and place it into the box. If you can’t lift your keyboard easily alone, then ask someone to help you before the removal company arrives.
Once it’s in the box, add another layer of bubble wrap as well as more packing peanuts to fill in the gaps.
Always tape the box shut to minimise the risk of it opening and the keyboard becoming damaged.
Be sure to tape the box shut multiple times to minimise the risk of it opening during transit.
6. Clearly Label The Box
Lastly, you’ll need to clearly label the box.
The label will depend on where you tend to keep your keyboard in the house. For instance, you might label it ‘Keyboard – Office – This Side Up’ or ‘Fragile – Keyboard’.
A clear label will indicate to your professional removal company what’s inside the box and to be extra careful when moving it.
