How to Move Heavy Garden Statues

Although you might imagine a garden statue to be tough because of its weight, these pieces are, in fact, incredibly fragile. On top of this, each garden statue will have its own unique characteristics that require different levels of care and attention throughout the move to keep them safe. You therefore want to take all of the steps possible to ensure that your garden statues reach their new destination unscathed.

To move your heavy garden statues, you should hire a professional removals team. Unlike the rest of your garden supplies which you could move yourself, garden statues are large and delicate pieces which require real expert moving techniques that are only gained with years of experience. This does not mean you are entirely useless to the process though; there are a couple of steps that you can take to help your removals team out.

1. Protect with Packing Materials

Depending on how delicate the statue is, you can wrap it in a layer of packing paper and bubble wrap to prevent possible contact damage. Do this is section by section, starting with the top. Wrap two layers of paper around the statue and secure it with parcel tape – just make sure that the tape does not go on the surface of the statue. Once the statue has a layer of protective paper, repeat the process with two layers of bubble wrap. Make sure that you wrap individual parts (nose and fingers) separate for extra protection.

Keep in mind that if your statue is brittle, wrapping it might cause parts to break off, so proceed with caution.

If your statue is designed to be disassembled, do this first. You can then wrap each individual piece in bubble wrap as above, and store in a cardboard box padded with additional protective packing materials.

2. Give Access

Make sure that your removals team have access. Most companies will need enough access for a large van to load.

This includes giving your movers keys, access codes, or other information that will allow them to access your home and garden.

You should also make sure that your garden path is clear enough for two people to remove and transport your large statue.

And that’s it! The rest is down to your reliable movers. For more on how to move other garden items, fine art, indoors furniture, and other helpful moving advice, check out our other posts on our website.
