You’ve just found the home of your dreams, your offer has been accepted, and you’re beginning the process of planning your move and organising removals.
There is a lot to think about and it can be very daunting, so you need to find the best way to get your furniture and belongings from A to B.
There are two main ways to go about this. The first would be to simply hire a van, meaning you find a friend or a vehicle hire company who can lend you a van and you do everything else yourself. The second option is hiring a removals company, meaning they will load their truck and drive your belongings to your new home. There are pros and cons to both options, so we have discussed the main factors below.
Cost
As with most things, cost can often be the biggest factor affecting your decision. Especially as moving home is already such an expensive time. At first thought you may assume hiring a van would be cheaper and you would be willing to do the rest yourself. And maybe a lot of the time it is cheaper, but you also have to consider other factors such as costs of petrol, packing supplies, hiring the van and then insurance on top of that. When hiring a removals company, there will be a fixed cost which you can find out if you enquire about a quick quote. After all it’s sometimes worth spending a bit more money to alleviate the stress and worry.
Time
Moving day is busy and hectic! There are many things to organise and prepare. Ultimately the best way to make the most of your time on moving day is preparation. If you are packed and organised and ready to go, hiring a van can be just as quick as a removals company. However, this does depend on whether or not you’re able to source some willing volunteers with good fitness levels and strength, which can be very difficult. Hiring a removals company will mean that you have a team of experienced and ready to go loaders which will, a lot of the time, make the process quicker. Removal companies completely also take the strain off of you allowing you to focus on other things on the day.
