The best advice we can give to you when moving home is to prepare, prepare, prepare! Which is why we have put together a handy, removals guide checklist so that you can plan in advance and make your move as stress-free as possible.
Before the move
- Plan according to key dates within your move, such as exchange of contracts, moving day etc.
- Most importantly, carefully select, liaise and organise with your removals company.
- Make an inventory list of all of the items in your home going room by room so you can organise packing and loading easier.
- Set aside all keys and manuals etc. for the new owners in a marked envelope clearly stating do not move to ensure these are not loaded onto the removals truck.
- Notify relevant companies of your change of address e.g. the bank, DVLA, Insurance company etc.
- Ensure you have the materials needed for packing your belongings, such as sturdy boxes of varying sizes, marker pens and packing tape. Here at Falconer Removals, we will deliver boxes to your door ahead of your move if you choose to move with us.
- Arrange child or pet care for the move day to make the day is as stress-free as possible for you.
- Notify neighbours both old and new of the move to warn them of the presence of removal trucks. However, we always do everything we can to minimise the disruption.
Moving day
- Ensure any last-minute bits of packing have been completed. Please note that we also offer a packing service so that your moving day can be completely stress-free.
- Prepare for your mover’s arrival by checking there is adequate space outside both properties for removal vans, particularly if you don’t have a drive or designated parking spot.
- Ensure all boxes are labelled clearly or be on hand to ensure boxes are put in the correct rooms.
- If you are completing on your house on the day of your move, make sure you collect the keys as soon as they are released from the estate agent.
- Set aside any items you may need throughout the day such as a kettle, car keys, phone charger etc so that they do not get loaded onto the truck.
After the move
- Before your removals company leaves, be sure to let them know if you need anything moving to a different room or position etc.
- When you have finished unpacking, please flatten the boxes, keep them somewhere dry and safe and contact us to arrange collection.
