To pack a vase when moving, you will need to:
- Clean your vase
- Prepare a box
- Bubble wrap your vase
- Carefully place your vase in the box
- Fill any space with packing materials
- Label boxes
1. Clean Your Vase
Before you can pack a vase, you will need to clean your vase.
All vases can get cloudy over time if you’ve not perfected a cleaning routine. Moving house is the perfect opportunity to do so to ensure your vase is ready to go once you arrive in your new home.
How To Clean A Vase
To clean a vase, you will need to:
- Create a cleaning solution with ½ tablespoon of salt and enough vinegar to make a paste-like consistency.
- Rub the paste all over your vase, being careful to get into every nook.
- Allow the paste to sit on the vase for a minimum of 10 minutes, and then scrub off lightly with a damp cloth.
- Following this, you will want to rinse the vase thoroughly with warm water.
Once you have cleaned your vase, it’s crucial that you dry it thoroughly with a clean towel before packing it away.
If you don’t dry away the moisture, the likelihood of the vase becoming covered in mould and mildew whilst it’s in the box is significantly higher.

2. Prepare A Box
Once you’ve cleaned your vase, you will need to prepare a box for moving house.
Fill a sturdy cardboard box with packing materials. Both biodegradable packing peanuts and packing paper would work here, but make sure that you have enough to cover the vase at a later stage.

3. Bubble Wrap Your Vase
Before you can pack your vase away, you will need to bubble wrap your vase in the same way you might with crockery.
Bubble wrapping your vase is a crucial step as the air bubbles suspend the product in the box and will act as a cushion barrier that helps to absorb any shock during transportation.
Be sure to tape the ends of your vase to ensure your vase is secure and properly protected.
Both biodegradable packing peanuts and packing paper work when it comes to packing a vase.
4. Carefully Place Your Vase In The Box
Once your vase is wrapped in bubble wrap, you can carefully place it in the box you have prepared.
Place the vase on the bed of packing materials gently before covering it with more packing paper or packing peanuts.
Note: If you’re packing more than one vase, you should repeat the previous steps to give each vase its own box.
Packing more than one vase in the same box increases the likelihood of them coming into contact with each other during transit.
By giving each vase its own box, you will ensure that you’re taking every precaution to protect your vases. After all, no one wants to unpack a smashed or broken vase.
5. Fill Any Space With Packing Materials
Once you’ve covered your vase in the box, it’s time to fill any space with more packing materials.
Ensuring there is limited space will help to make sure your vase is protected when being loaded onto the removal van by your moving company and during transit should there be any bumps along the way.
Tape up your cardboard box with packing tape to ensure that it is securely closed.
Packing more than one vase in the same box increases the likelihood of them coming into contact with each other during transit, so be sure to pack one vase per box.
6. Label Boxes
Lastly, you will need to clearly label your boxes.
When packing something as precious as a vase, you’ll need to write a label such as ‘Vase’ or ‘Fragile – Take Care’ to indicate to your removal company it contains something delicate.
This way, they’ll know to be extra careful when moving each of your vases.
